Getting your test results

Telephone us after 12.30 pm and we will tell you what the results are.

Non-urgent advice: Patient Notice

If you have not heard from us and would like to know the results of your test, please leave it about one week before you contact us.

This is to allow for the time taken to process samples.

If you want to talk to someone about your results, fill out our test results request form and someone will be in touch.

Results of Smear Tests

Normal smears are recalled every 3 years or if you have abnormal smears it may be more frequently. Sometimes a smear is inadequate and you will be called by the surgery to have it repeated.

If there are any problems with your smear that requires referral to a Gynaecologist the surgery will contact you.

Smear results can take a few weeks to come back from the Cytology Department, you should also receive a copy of the result in the post.

Results for patients aged over 16 years can only be given to the patient.

As per our practice policy to ensure patient confidentiality, the staff WILL NOT disclosed any details of the test but will advise you of any action that needs to be taken.

Results can be given to someone other than the patient if previously arranged with Doctor.
Specimens should be handed in as early in the day as possible. Please ensure your name and date of birth are on the container.
